This was a very special day trip for us. It started early, with hours of driving, but also involved a bit of farm hopping. We visited a total of five where usually a visit to one single farm would take an entire day.

On this trip, Ray and I were able to not only sort coffee at numerous farm locations as we picked cherries ourselves, but were also able to share a home cooked meal of feijoada, a traditional Brazilian meal, with the family of a producer.

After this meal, we took a walk through the Brazilian rainforest. As we emerged through a thick wall of trees, we were greeted to what seemed like a hidden sports arena, but the seats of this stadium were thousands of coffee trees. The farmer had purposefully planted his trees to look like a Brazilian futbol stadium. It was truly a beautiful sight. This microlot of coffee was Estadio de Carvalho. Our group toured the entire area, driving haphazardly over the scarred dirt roads, weaving around the dogs keeping pace.

After the tour, everyone tasted the coffee from this lot and got to know the farmer. Ray and I were enamored with every aspect of our experience and ventured to work out a plan for Honest to purchase the entire lot, year over year. All said and done, this delicious coffee can now only be found in Honest Coffee shops.
